Money and payments

Belize uses the Belize dollar (BZD $). Card acceptance is widespread in cities and tourist areas, but carry a small amount of cash for markets, taxis and rural areas. Always choose to be charged in the local currency rather than your home currency to avoid poor conversion rates, and tell your bank you're travelling so payments aren't blocked.

Power and charging

Sockets in Belize take type G plugs at 230V, 50Hz. Bring a suitable adapter, and check that your charger supports the local voltage — most modern phone and laptop chargers accept 100–240V.

Entry requirements and documents

Entry rules for Belize change regularly. Check your government's official travel advice and the destination's immigration website before booking. As a general rule keep at least six months' validity on your passport, have proof of onward travel, and save offline copies of your bookings, insurance and passport photo page.

Getting around
